Hello
My female albino royal is just under 4 months old, she is eating 2 rat weaners(approx 40grms each) a week. I weighed her and she was about 560grms so she is definately over 500grms.
My Qs is am I overfeeding her?, have other people got similer aged royals who are feeding and growing like this?
Everytime I go near her she looks at me with hungry eyes and I find it hard to limit her. Laughing
It looks like she is sold so want to make sure she has the best start possible and grows to be a baby making machine.
thanks
mike

Hi Mike,

my Royal gets 1 appropriate sized meal a week and by appropriate I mean one rat just smaller (but no bigger) than the girth at the widest point. I've read that over feeding can encourage them to eventually fast in order that they can catch up with how much they have eaten. If you think that in the wild, they probably won't get to feed as merrily as we feed them, so 52 feeds a year is ample. IMO of course.

Nice royal Mike! She'll make some a great addition.

With regards to feeding I don't think you can over feed a young growing royal, certainly not before they reach 1000g's.

I think a lot of people would be suprised just how quick snakes grow in the wild if conditions are good.

Two feeds a week is fine. I have many snakes that were hatched in 2006, some are now 1400g's, other still only 400g's. All offered the same amounts of food, some feed everytime and grow fast, some not so fast and some refuse the odd feed and are still as big as the biggest Confused

No because as bazzer said," Once a week of approximate girth of snake is fine."
But as the others have pointed out it is o.k. to feed twice a week upto about 1000grms if the snake is happy to eat twice a week.
As for me I am a soft touch and if I think they look hungry I give em somet.

mike
