|
|
I have switched of my auto mist system and gone to spraying twice daily along with using a dripper.Due to trying to keep the humidity down and allowing the Viv to dry out between spraying.
My question is how much water should go through it and how long should it be dripping.
Found the Male is drinking from it where i never used to see him drink at all.
thanks Gary |

Hi Gary. While i mist my panther manually & also use a dripper (which i try to drip for a couple of hours at least) i also use a small rodent bottle. if you hold it a couple of inches in front of the chams face it should eventually drink from it. this is a great way of making sure they take plenty of water. its easy to get young ones used to it, but takes a little more time & patience with older animals. |

Thanks didn't think about the bottle, think this would be rather hard with the male as he is so grumpy he does nothing but hiss and lunge when i go in their to clean or feed. |

I used to use a 50ml syringe to give my panthers and yemens water by hand. _________________ Jim never fixed it for me! |

A dripper can be left on all day as long as it drips into a plant pot or something to prevent water collecting on the viv base, just set it to slow drip over some plant leaves, chams soon get the hang of it and many will drink straight form the dripper tube. Chams are attracted to droplets of water on plant leaves and also attracted to moving water. The dripper and x2 daily misting is just right in my view for Yemens. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I'm actually designing a purpose built Viv for them with a false floor and a separate collection tray for excess water,(major prob with present design) i will be posting my proposal for you all to criticize and point out any bad/good points and hopefully this one will be right.
I do just let it drip onto a plant at the moment and spent ages just watching them as they both licked the plant and occasional "shoot" the end of the tube. |
