|
|
Hiya, a friend had a baby Mexican Rosy that had not eaten since being born early this Autumn. The babe was given to me to see if I could get it through the Winter / eating. The very same thing happened with one of my Mid Baja Rosie hatchlings last year, totally refused to eat anything. Having read that in the wild the hatchlings will often go straight from the egg to brumation I let the Mid Baja brumate, and when it warmed up it fed with no problems.
Soooo, I have done the same thing with my friends Mexican and the hatchling is in the cool. Now, silly question How long should I let it be in the cool ? Yes, I know, I sorted things out last year just fine, BUT this is not MY snake and so I'm all worried about getting it right... It went into the cool about mid October - early but rather that than it being warm and refusing to eat. When should I bring it back into the warmth. Thinking mabe 10 weeks ?
Isn't it daft, I really cannot remember exactly what length of time I left my hatchling last year.... It must be long enough or it still may not eat, but too long and my friends snake may die |

It's not an exact science, 8 - 12 weeks should be enough. Just keep an eye that the snake hasn't lost too much weight or dehydrated. _________________

Yes, here are a couple of photos, however they are of the female when gravid and one of the babies that she had. The adult pair are brumating now and so I do not want to disturb them to take photos. If you remind me in the Spring, I will take some for you then.

Thankyou Lynne that would be brilliant. It has been in the cool for over 4 weeks now and it would be great to warm it up and see it feed. They are such darling snakes, very soft to the touch. Shame that they only have very small clutches, but that makes them all the more special. PLEASE do get back to me with the chaps comments. Oh, and how long does he brummate the adults for ? I tend to give them 3 months or so. Thankyou again

That is what I bought the adults as, though to be honest some of the different locals can look very similar. Yes it is pronounced Baa Ha
