Hey not posted on here for ages.
I'm just looking for some general info on mangrove snakes e.g. tanks size, food and temperament.
Any sites with info will be good.
Any one on here breed them?

Scott

I think both Angi (Zarozinia) and Karl Green on here have experience with boiga species. Maybe speak to them.

regarding mangroves, I have a pair of CB07's.
Temperament wise, they are fine during the day, and can be easily handled. A different story at night though!! They turn into the most feisty, aggressive creatures I have ever worked with!

Food wise, mine take pinks, left under the hide, and put in when the lights go out. The pinks have always gone the next morning!

I keep mine in hatchling tubs, heated to 90C at the warm end with a heatmat, with a cool damp end, and the warm end being SLIGHTLY drier. They are on a substrate of orchid bark, with a large water bowl. At the warm end, I use a piece of cork bark as a hide, with damp moss underneath.

Hope this helps!

Thomas

Why did you tell me yesterday that you had kept them for a month and they would not eat so you force fed one on Tuesday? I am happy to talk for hours and help you on msn Thomas as you know, but if you lie then I cannot help you appropriately. You should not be force feeding after having them for only 10 days. I am extremely disappointed. But I WILL continue to help you Thomas, try the methods I suggested. PLease do not be over keen to hurry everything, your new snakes will be stressed to hell if you continue as you have done.

With wild caught mangroves it is a good idea to seek treatment from a vets for parasites/worms, and initially ensure they are hydrated. I would not advise bathing them every other day( as someone has done), this will stress them further. They need time to settle in and feel secure, if they are stressed they will not feed. If there is a problem with sloughing then add a cat litter tray filled with water to the enclosure for them to use and increase humidity - if necessary a one off soak ( for an hour or so) would most likely do the trick, place in a tub with an inch or so of tepid water and a small piece of bark.
Force feeding should really be a last measure and to be honest it would take me many weeks ( most likely a good couple of months) before I would resort to force feeding a wild caught mangrove. There are so many things you could try. What is strange is that Ive only had one person so far mention feeding birds to their mangrove when in the wild this is a large part of their diet. I would strongly recommend trying small quails and chicks. You don't have to feed them birds permanently, there are ways to move them onto a diet of rodents and Im sure most reptile shops would order young quails in for requesting customers.

Scooter you can try www.boiga.co.uk where we have a small community of boiga enthusiasts. Also here is a link to a new thread Ive started to help people getting their mangroves ( or other boigas) to feed
http://boiga.proboards98.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=dend&thread=1196110618&page=1
We have had some interesting new info added.
