It amazes me the difference in the weights compared to what people class each size as.
I do rat weaners @ 60-100grams, most others class that as a small rat , Maybe I just wean my rats a lot later than most people _________________

If I bred those I would want a super sized shovel just in case one decided to jump me one day _________________ My website isn't quite there yet, as I got bored half way through writing it.

Yeah was just looking at those weights and I’m suspired. I made my own chart for my snake room and small rats are 100g-150g (I searched around a few UK suppliers’ websites for an average weight) _________________

I kept weight records of most of my rat litters ... I would expect a baby rat to weigh about 120-150g by five weeks old, and at least 200g for the smallest (up to about 250g) by seven weeks - a 79g 6-week-old as mentioned on that first chart sounds pitiful |

Hmmmm, very interesting. Must admit that I tend to just look at the size of rats and pick ones that look the right size without weighing them. It will be great now to weigh them as well and compare them to the chart. I hate culling the rats and am always in danger of letting some get too large, but then they go into the freezer to wait for some of my larger pituophis to wake up in the Spring... |
