does anybody know whether male jcp's go through any form of seasonal fasting? my jcp has not eaten for 5 weeks now,2 of which was when pre-shed.he is 2 years old Confused

A lot of my males stop feeding in winter as they go into mating mode Smile

As long as the animal is active and looks well I wouldn't worry. I've had IJs not feed for 4-5 months every year.

They know what time of year it is just by our own action's.
if we are getting up later and going to bed earlier then light's are on for shorter period's and this sends them the signal. that's why all my Viv light are on time switches.

Even if the temps and photoperiod in the viv don't change,some still seem to be aware of the seasons.It's amazing how tuned these guys are with their world.

I've found it's always a good idea to have more snakes... and stagger your feeding. If one stops feeding then something else should take the feed and so no waste. I have a couple that are just dustbins.. if one of the others goes off feeding then they will gobble up the leftovers. As someone posted if the snake is active, healthy and alert dont panic.

I was worried about one of my Royals when it stopped feeding over Winter, I kept weighing her and even though she didn't feed for weeks there was little weight loss. I think they know what they are doing.

Don't worry mate this isn't uncommon its exactly what you want them to do when you get him ready to breed in the next year or 2.
