Posted: Mon Nov 12, 2007 8:10 pm Post subject: Advice please, which male shall I use ? |
|
|
As I have mentioned before, only one of my eight girls is nicely up to weight for breeding this year, but I am sooooo excited with the prospect of something nice being hatched out - I hope. Please help me to decide which male to use. The males are not mine but belong to a pal of mine. This pal also owns half share of this female, all the rest of the girls are MINE !!!!!, but not up to age / weight.
I would like to get to keep a nice morph for myself and so would it be an idea to use the co-dom Nerd Pastel ? Or the co-dom Yellow Belly ( IF he is up to weight the Ivory) ? Or would it be more sensible to go for the recessive Piebald ? Because I only own half of this girl I will only have half of the babies, taking it in turns to choose a baby.
My pal is the one who will make the final decision due to owning the males, but I do have lots of Granny nagging power.... I am tending towards the Piebald to get 100% hets, but if the babies are all males it would be rather a waste. All females and I would be laughing
Please what would you do ? She is due to go to the chosen male in December.
Thanks,
Sue |

It is totally up too you.
I would go either yellowbelly, cause in the long run I love ivories.
Or I would go Pied, cause in the long run you could go for a pied.
decisions decisions.

its deff up to yourself ( oh and the snakes mind you ! )
Me ? this is what i would do .... use the Pastel to hopefully get half n half clutch ...that's you got a great base morph to call your own ....
it also gives you some experience....then NEXT season , when more of YOUR girls are up to weight .....you can ten see about Het Pieds yellow bellies and more pastels !!! JMHO _________________ 3.7.0 Royals

I would play the odds and go with the Pied to produce 100% hets. Hopefully you will get an average clutch of 6 eggs and get to keep a minimum 1.1 for yourself (and possibly 1.2 if the Gods smile on you!). Next year you should be able to buy a Pastel female for less than it would cost this year. The same cannot be said of the Het Pied female. Hope this helps and best of luck with your chosen project!
Cheers

Thankyou for suggestions so far. I do own one morph, an '07 Graziani Pastel who is growing really well. The rest of the girls are all lovely normals. I've been breeding snakes for many years, but this will be the first for Royals. Totally like a big kid over this, I love my various snakes to bits. |

lol you never said ya had a Graziani
Hence why i suggested pastel x normal. Saying that tho ' I would still go with a pastel ... ... assuming its as you said your mates Nerd Pastel ...you get a female ... bring her on ... Supers a cple o' years later !
Also still use other ( when at weight ) females for the Hets .
Just a thought _________________ 3.7.0 Royals

im with dave and id go for the pied, with a co dom you might come up dry and not get a visual but at least even if you hatch all males het pieds they will be worth more than normal males _________________ www.jamieswordsreptiles.com |

I agree with the pieds, except if you want a 'real morph' (as in visual) go for the morph you like best or one tht will combine well with your graziani _________________ A lil bit of Madagascar

I would also probably use the pastel as said before a great base morph but pieds are cool just take alittle longer. |
