Anyone used the above or any type of carnivorous plant in a viv/cage with a rep?

Is it safe for them, obviously would be animals that couldn't get stuck or eaten housed with them but just wondered.

I always thought it would be good to have something like that in a tank, just to pick off excess roaches or crix etc. Didn't ever look into it though - be good to see if anyone does have any info.

Some CP's do OK in a vivarium other do not, venus fly traps need a cool period to grow.

I'll get a list together for you tonight Wink some of the nepenthis do well and look amazing in the right place.

Also tap water shouldn't be used at all with them so spring or RO water is needed.

Only problem I could see is that VFT's are quite delicate, and it would probably get trashed by your lizard.

If I do it then I would have it protected by some mesh, would that work do you think?

CP's would be dead in a day in a Leo viv mate Wink the come from humid areas such as bogs and the like. there's plenty of savanna type plants and alot of nice succulents that would do well in a leo viv.

Yep, CPs are (mainly) either epiphytes or bog plants. Also, if a lizard walked over it a few times, it would die quickly, as setting off the traps too much kills them - as does over feeding them. I think something like Nepenthes fusca (the mature pitchers) would look amazing with some frogs/small lizards in a tropical vivarium though. Just have to make sure they're not a danger to the animals too! Laughing

Note to everyone though - never buy seeds in those little Carnivorous Plant packages, it'll take a few years to get around 5cm's wide Laughing
