|
|
Hi Guys - well our new cresties arrived and are stunning - thanks Scott!
Have named them Syd, Kurt (possibly will have an identity crisis if it turns out to be a girl!!) and Titch (smaller than the other two, but really beautiful!).
Have seen Syd and Kurt hunting crickets - gutsy little buggers too, but we haven't seen the little one Titch eat anything, s/he licked a tiny bit of baby food from Sean's finger then ran off and hid again. Maybe s/he's just a late riser and doesn't venture out hunting till the early hours but we can't stay up all night to check!!!
There are quite a few dusted cricks still in the viv and four milk bottle tops of CGD dotted around so we're hoping s/he has been having some in the night. We have been misting every night to make sure Titch gets some water.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received for how we can coax the littl'un to eat - or am I just being paranoid?!!!
We've been feeding the crickets lettuce potato and oats to gutload them- but they seem to be growing at an alarming rate and I'm concerned they will get too big for the Cresties particularly Titch - if they do get too big I will have to get some smaller ones but then what do I do with the big ones? I know they are just a food source but don't really want to kill them for no reason! How long do they live?
I know these probably seem daft questions but as you know I'm very new to all this
Thanks a lot for bearing with me!!!
Cheers

Are you able to seperate Titch?
The crickets, you can keep and breed them!
Just keep hand feeding Titch, and keep an eye on them all.
Hope it helps. _________________

Drop Scott and PM and see what she was feeding on?
I would try and seperate her so you can monitor any food missing at all, and try different prey items(locust, cockroaches, waxies, moths etc). _________________ MORE THAN 2! |

Will separating him stress him out even more? It's been a bit of a full-on week already - and I was trying to not handle them until they were a bit older.
How easy would it be to reintroduce him back into the viv with the others later?
As for breeding crickets - wouldn't know where to start! I don't even like having the ones we've got!!!!! Creepy little things!! - plus with only three tiny cresties at the moment what the hell will we do with them all?!!!

Not sure how easy it would be to re introduce but I think the best thing for now would definitely be seperating to make sure he gets the chance to get at the food before the others and to monitor food to see what he is actually eating.
Can you not trick him into something moveable or try having one cage next to the other and try and move him into it? _________________ MORE THAN 2! |

They were all being fed on small brown crickets - Scott has said to make sure they are a good number in the viv and there are still quite a few in there - there are still a few left in the bowl so its not as though the other two are eating all of them.
When I come down in the morning at about 6 am to kick the cats out, I have seen Titch in different places in the viv so he is moving away from his usual daytime kipping spot
We do have a faunarium - and there is enough foliage in the large viv to furnish it !! And obviously I want what's best for Titch and will move him if necessary.
S'pose I could try one more night in the big viv and stay up all night to check - me and the OH can take it in shifts!!! and then move Titch tomorrow if still having no luck.
Thanks

Honestly Carol I wouldn't worry too much, when they are so small they hardly eat anything - you probably wouldnt be able to tell if there had been a few licks out of the CGD at this point. And counting crickets left in a viv is always such a pain in the...
I'm sure the little guy/gal will be eating and if it is moving around the viv at night then there is a good chance that it is finding something somewhere. The multiple bottle caps of CGD is a good idea. If you are still worried about him then yeah, as said already put him/her into the faunarium then at least you will know if any poo you find or any crickets that go missing are down to him.
See what Scott has to say aswell.
And check you out Roy with the sticky help |
