Toyah very kindly gave us 6 multimammate mice a few weeks ago. Last week one of the females gave birth to her first litter. We were told to expect around 3 in the first litter, but she had 10! Shocked

The babies are all healthy and doing well, and the parents are taking excellent care of them. Now another of the females is pregnant!

Thanks again to Toyah.

Hope they prove worthwhile keeping ...

Laughing Laughing Laughing They must all be pretty much the same like that then. I did have some babies a couple of months back that i handled from when they first opened their eyes and they actually became quite tame.

I find they are tame as long as they're handled, though I never trust them 100%. I've only ever been bitten twice - once was completely my own fault, the second time just seemed to be a rogue nasty multi.

I am more nervous handling them when other people are around as I am sure my protestations that they're actually quite nice wee animals will mean that's the time I get properly bitten by them! Sod's law.

Laughing We haven't handled them yet as such. I herd them into a plantpot to move them for cleaning out. I've been wary of touching the babies, in case it upsets mum and she rejects them or something.

Multis are actually rats from Africa, though it is suggested they are the link between rats and mice
