Also have noticed that they don't seem to eat quite as much as I was led to believe they would, i was told they would eat anything that moved and even some things that don't.
I put a load of crickets in beside them and they just lie there and look at them only picking at them through the day. The LOVE pinkies and will eat one everytime I try them (about 1 each a week), they only ever take one though, if i try them with a second one they don't take it.
I put hoppers in and its the same as with the crickets, bowls of mealies stay there for days again only being picked at. These guys are just not what I was told they would be, I was told they would hoover food up, do you think this basking platform would help, if so do you have some pictures of it so I can see what you mean in your description Scott.

Definitely normals/yellows though .. look good .. Just as a matter of interest i hope u didnt pay Red Ackie price for them!? .
Mine dont really take Pinks at all, and mine too have slowed down on their food at the mo .. the only thing they will take all the time is roaches, they love them .... Have u tried them on these?
Here's a quick pic of my Viv with a stack/platform in it ...

Try proexotics.com they have a pretty good care sheet for Ackies.
Personally I would separate them before they do some serious damage. You could always try pairing up a male and your female for a couple of days for breeding. |

WOW, what an amazing viv, i haven't tried roaches and while they were sold to me as red ackies i didn't pay red ackie prices for them, i got the two from doncaster for £150 for the pair and the one from newcastle for £120. So while they were sold as reds i wasn't really ripped off, still happy with them, except they keep bloody fighting. _________________

hey dude.
I think with the sugestion of moving the mass of branches under the bask is that then you have various areas and levels under the bask so they can choose the perfect spot for the temp they want right then.
also with that, means that all 3 could bask without having to FIGHT for basking space and the like.
If the one area is seen as prime area [like on the top of that bit of root stuff] then fights may occur for that space.
lovely ackies, nice viv.

I have some more wood lying about, I might try building that area up as well, around that root, see if I cant get them to stop cos it is really worrying me that they are going to rip each other apart. I have seen what they do to pinkies and that could very easily be one of their legs. _________________

I would do something with that clamp lamp and ceramic mate, thats a firing waiting to happen.
Try putting a stack in the viv and a box filled with damp sand, they will start digging and give them something to do during the day.
I would also get yourself a good quality guard to go over the ceramic bulb. Ackies are curious little lizards and will jump up and get burnt.
Scott - I have never had any problems with my groups of Storrs when it comes to aggression.
The trick with Storrs is to give them a huge flat nest box.
I used a large contibox with 2 small holes in the lid and filled the box completely to the top with damp sand. They dig tunnels all day.
They are much like gerbils in a way.
If you was to put Storrs into a glass tank with the floor covered in 6 inches of sand, it would make a fantastic display tank.
I have a Ackie website being built at the moment I will get the address tomorrow and post it up. |
