Hi Guys

I am a beginner - as in I have one male Royal Python Normal who is now 6 months old. Gone through 2 sheds with me and feeding great so far.

My parents however when they saw him said that he seemed porky!!!! ( he isn't - his weight is fine for his age/size and I feed him 1 fuzzy every 5 days which is soon to increase in size - anyway I go off the subject!!) and then said should I not 'exercise him' Shocked

. I did not have an answer for that one and then should should I be and how? I take him out every day except for feeding day and he has a little slither but nothing great - he normally tucks himself behind my neck!

Does anyone have any views on this?? Should I be 'exercising' him???? Do you 'exercise' yours????

Definitely no exercise, royals have rather slender necks so that can make there middle half appear a tad porky. Rest assured this is not the case, they are a heavy bodied snake.

sorry to hijack the thread but when would you say is the best time to handle your royal. Ive had mine just over two weeks now and tried to get her out yesterday during the day i lifted up the hide she was in but she just stayed in it. i didn't really want to poke my finger in there as i thought that would annoy her so i just put her back. So basically what iam saying is should i just wait until she comes out at night and get her? i didn't no if she would be in a hunting mode and think iam a rat. Smile

Ideally you should pull the snake out of it's hide if it wedges itself in as it could get stressed.

Also you should never really handle them for a day or so after feeding (just to give them time to digest the food).

cheers Scott i will try n just pull her out i only want to just give her a look over and maybe get her weight and length. she last feed on Friday so should be OK.

ah right, i wasn't actually guna yank her out of the hide but just put my hand in it but i will now just wait until shes out and about exploring the viv.
