|
|
I'm a little worried about Mr Swivels recently - he's lost his appetite over the last couple of days, and takes every opportunity to escape his enclosure. He seems as active as ever though.
Has he discovered a new respect for locusts, and a desire to co-exist? Or do chameleons sometimes just go off their food? I tend to offer him 5-8 good size locusts a day, and recently he hasn't been interested when I place them in with him. It's not unusual to find 4-6 locusts still milling around the flexarium several hours later.
Could the new-found love of freedom just be his way of telling me he needs a larger flexarium?
Can anyone suggest a good way of offering fresh greens inside his flexarium? I've tried draping them over his vines and over the plant in there, but to no avail.
Thanks.

He could be starting to brumate- my cham goes off his food every winter, and is a lot less active. _________________

Do I need to do anything for him over winter then? I didn't realise chameleons brumated. |

If he's less active, try feeding him less, but if he remains acitve, feed him a bit more. Try to vary the insects you give him. To be honest, I wouldn't worry abut getting him to take fruit/veg too much. As long as he has a good, varied, supplemented diet he should be fine.
I can always tell around the middle of October that my yemen is starting to brumate, as he tucks himself up for bed at around 5pm. _________________

Yep he may be brumating or he may be bored of locusts. Try some nice big fat juicy brown crickets. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Sorry for my ignorance but I've not come across this before. Might it be why my male Yemen is a bit off his food and sluggish lately? Can someone explain it to me, it's obviously seasonal but please tell more. |

Its the equivalent of hibernating but not going to sleep for the entire time, instead staying awake but being less active. |
