Superb! How did you incubate the eggs? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Second baby hatched this morning if anything even bigger than the first. The remaining five eggs are starting to sweat so hopefully they should hatch over the next 36 hours.
Okay here's how I incubated them. I placed the eggs on a bed soaked and drained perlite inside a small plant propagator. The kind with adjustable ventilation holes. This was placed inside a polystyrene box incubator with two round ventilation holes. This was kept in a cool room and incubated at between 19 to 20C. They started to hatch almost to second after 4.5 months.
it remained humid inside the propagator with moisture always present inside the clear lid.
I initially had 11 eggs. I lost three very early on and the fourth three weeks ago. I am absolutely certain that these eggs were conceived in the UK as I made a note of when they were mating, I'd already had them for some months before the mating.
I am incubating a second batch of fifteen eggs in exactly the same manner. If these go to term they should hatch mid January.
I have to admit I am absolutely gob smacked by the experience. I obviously hoped they hatched but after other peoples experiences I didn't really expect them to.
There is a story attached to the first egg hatching that I will post at some point. |
