i feed all mine once a week with a suitable prey item rabbits for the larger rats for the smaller its the owners choice on how they choose to feed there pets i suppose but under feeding just to stunt its growth is just plain wrong imo _________________ boas and burms |

if you want a snake that doesn't get too big, the why buy a snake that could get too big and ruin it by not making it gow to its full size and live up to its potential. just buy a smaller snake, if you want a python that doesnt get too big, don't just try and stunt a big one buy a frickin small one, such as a royal, or if you don't mind boas you could get a BCI or BRB. it annoys me when people just wnat a big snake, lots of smaller snakes are impressive to, and if you are unsure whether you can care for it when it is fully grown do not buy it. That is why i, personally would never buy a burmese or a retic as i know that i could never house one, and that is also why i may be getting a dwarf boa constrictor, as i know i could never mange with a large one. _________________ Tom

That's a large meal in decent period the problem I have with this thread isn't feeding a snake larger meals less frequent at all its the wanting to stunt an animal by under feeding it That's a very nice snake you have btw |
When they were sibling's they were feed once every 7-10 day's on appropriate sized prey.
as stated several times if you know you can't house a large Boid then don't buy one.
I've had African rock's and large boa's in my collection before over the year's and if you don't have the space forget it.
Trying to stunt an animal's growth will only lead to a shortened life as much as over feeding. |

well it seems to me like your telling the truth but i couldn't,t tell ya how often to feed the snake if you were stunting it. i'm not exactly sure how often you would feed the stunted snake |

if only everyone thought like that ive seen a few burms lately that owners couldnt care for as they were to big for them now to many people buy the cute little snake not realising just how big it will get i had one guy tell me there adult at 8 foot _________________ boas and burms |

lol thanks, yes it would be better for everyone if more people thought about things or researched properly, it annoys me greatly. It is not only in the reptile hobby though, i used to be seriously into fishkeeping ( is till am, but not so much, now that i am allowed reptiles) and i used to have a job in an aquatics store, and this bloke came in and tried to buy a fish (tinfoil barb) that could potentially grow over 45cm for is 3 foot tank, with the idea that when it got too big he will bring it back!! _________________ Tom
