Hmmm, the cogs are working now....
My two fussy 'baskets' are putting on the weight since i've been assisting but have tried live medium sized mice and they strike out of fearer i think so haven't tried larger. Maybe worth offering a rat weaner or summit larger than the large mice i assist them with....

if its d/f make sure you get it as warm as possible,i like to blast the head with an hair dryer and the royals lurrrrrve it

This is what I do  when the food item is properly defrosted(in warm water) I make sure everything is ready then,
I put boiling water in the defrosting plastic container(its already got some warm water in so does not pop the foods belly), I ahve it hot enought so that you cannot keep your finger in for more than a couple of seconds but very quickly put the food item into kitchen roll, then very quickly using big tweezers ofer the food to the snake.
The amount of times my snakes has sniffed and messed around THEN i have increased water temp to a finger burning temp and they have instantly nailed it.

I reckon its them heat pits Mike , really gets them going if they sense the heat as well . triggers a natural reaction in them probs .

They do feed on birds (haven't a clue which sort), and i think they have some real big rats over there (of course, what ever they stumble across size wise). And i'm guessing, i think multimammates originate from this area? And gerboa's if i remember correctly.
I've fed my biggest royal several Giant rats and there was no problem. But... after she laid a clutch of eggs she had a giant rat, and afterwards she completely went off rats, and i could only feed her mice (went without food for about a month, and with her losing weight with eggs, i offer her approx 10 XL mice each week, before i weaned her off mice). So i'm not sure if it was too much, and these days i just offer small or medium rats to my adults. |

I don't like feeding too large of a item each week as i feel they just don't need it. In the wild they have to eat what comes their way, but after that they may not get another meal for another month at least. In captivity they get fed weekly so i think smaller meals are adequate. I have a girl at the minute that has either an Xl mouse or multimammate weekly and she weighs 2330g. All my rat eaters have rats that weigh about 150g and likewise they are gaining weight fine. Of course if they weren't gaining weight i would up their size but at the minute its working out OK

| yeah but they dont have to be feed weekly can feed bigger items evey 10-14 days or even more |
