I've been keeping chondros for a couple of years now and started keeping emeralds this year. Emeralds and chondros have slightly different requirements but I wouldn't really say one was harder than the other ( as long as you're comparing quality captive bred animals that is). Northern locality emeralds are seen as a bit more temperamental but the basins are generally regarded as more tolerant.
As a general rule emeralds should be kept at slightly cooler temperatures and fed less frequently but other than that their day to day husbandry is no different to that of chondros.
cheers

well there very nice are they any more difficult to care for then say a GTP? i know with research you can learn alot but i didn't know if have any personal experience with keeping both and might be able to give an unbiased opinion. |
Easier than GTPs, but much more expensive!!

i'm sure you will really love your lil gtp when you get it,but i would not house it in too big an enclosure, for a hatchling i would recommend housing it in a 3 litre really useful box with say 6 vent holes 3 either end, and of course a 12 inch diametre perch, and water bowl, use kitchen towel as substrate. heating i used was simply a heat mat, though i did have the "really useful" box inside a larger box to create less temp/humidity fluctuation, 1 year on my gtp is going great guns.
final bit of advice, do buy from a reputable and well respected source, dont be tempted to cut corners to save money.
sources i would recommend
1. nick lumb
2. steve fuller
3. gary groome
4.adam bissett
in the u.k.
from the u.s.a i would recommend greg maxwell.
those are sources that i know and trust, if i have omitted anybody currently breeding/supplying gtp's it is only because i do not know them, and not necessarily a snub to their efforts. _________________ we all have the spark of divinity within us, but are we responsible enough to use it? |

yeah, sorry 'bout that , gary was changing to doing blackheads and womas when i last heard, i dont know if he could/would supply gtp's if requested, but his expertise/advice is still valid however, as for adam, i was not aware he was not doing gtp's, last i heard he was waiting for an expected hatching from his breeding attempt with two of his gtp's.,i had intended buying from him myself, but i could not wait that long, and bought from nick lumb, who supplied a first class animal, and plenty of quality after-sales service too. _________________ we all have the spark of divinity within us, but are we responsible enough to use it? |
