I'm just curious if anyone has tried doing this for royals?
You could buy 2 double stacks and convert them into 8 viv's for real good sized females.
I know this is a pic of our gecko's in there, but you'll get an idea of what i'm on about.

That looks like a really good idea, and it makes the most of the height.
I am always wondering what happens when females get to over 2000g.
As I have heard that they get to big for 50l RUB's.
How did you attach the shelf, and is it secure? _________________ Regards, Paul.

shelving blocks i think they are called. We never secured it down, because it's only leo's which are small. Make's it easier to clean as well
My other idea was to cut out 8" high x 11" wide contiboard bits, screwing them at each side of the viv, and leaving the shelf on top, without having to screw it down. It won't go anywhere if you do it this way and put a 3kg female on top lol. |

im not sure what contiboard is but you could screw 2 x 1 bits of support batton down horizontal around the viv and tack the shelf in place from the outside to stop the snake shifting it onto the glass. install an upright in the middle to help stop the inevitable "sag" as time goes on. thats definately the way to avoid tubs _________________

the contiboard is the stuff i used to make the extra viv inside the viv.
If i cut out those dimensions and screwed them into the sides, there would be no chance of the the likes of shelving blocks giving way (my way of thinking) in larger females. I see your point about the middle saging. I'll see what i can throw together for that |

probably. But since i'm a royal enthusiast , i figured i'd share it to fellow royal friends. Some people moan that royals are to cramped in tubs. Now i've found the solution to try win them over lol. A viv! Even though some tubs have more floor space than that 3ft viv. Each to their own anyway. I think you can buy 3ft double stacks for about £130 (not sure on p&p). So if you bought 2 of them, you could potentially have 8 viv's for your royals. Just a thought for you all was all. |

the ideas good but not sure about the practicality, when the snake messes along that side it's all going to drip down into the lower viv and be a pain to clean.
A good few years back I made some vivs similar, basically they were like a normal viv but only had 8" of internal height. They also had sliding glass doors front and back so I could clean them real easy (they were in a center aisle so I could access both sides ) _________________

I have thought about that, and i think i have 2 options. I could put a thin strip along the edge of the top half to prevent any leakages, and seal the strip down with silicon, or just completely seal and screw the contiboard in place. I've not got round to anything like that just yet, but i am considering . sometime's they get their urates in odd places, so it's probably best just sealing the lot in place
I thought about having them either side, and i'm probably going to do it, but at the moment i've still got a lot of tubs to fill, so there's no rush just yet |

i have a 3ft viv with a shelf. i had the royal babies tubs in it before they moved to the racks. could this be used for my boa without taking shelf out. she is an 07 not fully grown can i add. i thought about cutting a hole through the shelf to give her access to bottom and top. or would i just be better taking shelf out? _________________
