Hello all.
My baby corn Sydney who is 3 months old now has been very quiet since last weekend. he is normally out and about quite alot during the day, but since last Sunday I have barely seen him. I lifted his hide a few times and he seemed very agitated, and I am convinced his colour has changed. My husband snapped a pic just now, and I thought I would ask the opinion of the lovely people on here.
This is the pic taken 10 minutes ago.
And this is him a couple of weeks ago.
I have never had a baby snake before, so I don't know how often to expect a shed.
Thanks very much. |

The milky eyes are the key to show in a couple of days he/she will probably shed! |

aw wee soul. he is in blue. his eyes will go back to normal and the couple of days after that he will shed his skin. its awesome to see, i never get fed up watching them shed, if im lucky enough to catch them doing it that is. dont handle him while his eyes are blue as they cannot see very well, this is why he will be hiding and being quiet. do you have a mos box in for him, as they like higher humidity when shedding. and it helps get the skin off easier too. _________________

oh and at this age i would expect him to shed every 3-5 weeks. my corn hatchlings are shedding every 3 weeks on average. _________________

Thanks so much for the advice everyone, Sydney and I really appreciate it. I don't have any moss handy, but I gave his viv a very light mist with water. Is this ok? |

Thanks very much.
How often should I mist? Sorry for all the questions, but I want him to be as comfortable as possible. |

morning afternoon and night. but even if you could get a wee box, or the inside of a toilet roll and put some substrate in it and dampen that it would help, and he can go in and out as he pleases. put it at his warm end and it will up the humidity in his wee house. or, lots of people move the water bowl up to the warm end until they shed, this ups the humidity too. i used to spray the side of their faunariums when they were small and that helps. one off mine used to go around hoovering up the droplets of water. remember keep the skin!!! after he sheds, just have a look at the skin. check his tail tip is off, and look carefully at where his eyes were and make sure the eyecaps are on the shed. he will manage rest himself. _________________
