I have just been talking to someone online who is tried to justify captive farming to me in Ghana, I am not going to say who it was but he'll know who he is when he reads this.

I am totally against CF and would never buy one, what do you all think?

Just so everybody knows,

Its me the person he is talking about. . . Smile

As I have already said, CF royals help the people in Ghana,
I dont know that much about it. . . But I have an open mind to it.

CB is not always avaible and as I said to you, I looked for CB and
it wasnt avaible at the time.

Could you not judge that I have got a CF royal. thanks.

Have you seen the pictures of how they are brought into the world and how they are treated until they are bought, puts me in mind of puppy farms in this country.

They are in a book that I have called The Complete Ball Python by Kevin McCurley of NERD, my friend has this book just now, as soon as I get it back I will scan the photo in, made me cry, it really did.

Hello
You need a depends as well.
I used to be totally anti CF. I am only against about 90% of cf now. If done properly it can be a good thing. Unfortunately for a large % it is like the days when thousands of tortoises were brought in and sold for £1 and majority where dead within 1-2 years. Believe it or not earlier this year I could have bought a load of CFs for about £7 each , with inflation it probably equals £1 for tortoises in the good old days.
The difference is the people who bring them in now understand exactly what the snakes need but because of time and space pressures some choose not to give the animal what it needs.
The end result often, is dead snakes.
Which opens up another debate. If the demand is so high for normal CFs, if there was a ban on import, then the Ball market in the uk would be fantastic for CB breeders. Shops paying £10 for a CF royal are not that bothered if they lose a few, but if they are paying £30/40 to breeders then they will look after there investment and hopefully the customer will get a nice feeding healthy snake.

Blimey. I have never read that book so would be hard to comment. Would be interesting to see the pics, although possibly upsetting.

As always I am open to have my view changed

i think its the idea off the females NOT always being released back into the wild once they have laid. some are killed for meat, some are killed for skins. i do know paul tried like a bear to get a captive bred royal and couldnt.
i have seen the pictures of these wee babies hatching out in filthy huge warehouses with dirt on the floor. do not ask me to scan and post, cause it takes me to turn the comp on im afraid.
i had the chance of two cfed youngster and then found three cb youngsters and bought them instead. but if you are not lucky enough to know where to find a cb hatchling, well what can you do.
