I Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi to you all!
First off, before the fun, reptile-related stuff... I belong to many forums covering a variety of subjects and interests (yes, I’m quite the geek at heart!) and have to say; this is the friendliest forum I’ve seen anywhere online and the levels of knowledge and expertise available here is truly astounding... look forward to tapping all those big beautiful brains in the not too distant future...
I have lots of experience with reptiles in the wild with long periods of my life spent working/living/travelling in the tropics - including three years living in a primary rainforest - and extended visits to many others - the Far North Queensland, Amazon, Borneo, Irian Jaya etc etc. I have dealt with Kraits, Taipan, Flying Tree Snakes, Cobras, Spitting Cobras, Asian Rat Snakes, Vipers, 25ft+ Retics, skinks, Geckos and my favourite post-modern dinosaur, the magnificent Varanus salvator
I have only ever kept snakes (Brazilian and Colombian Rainbow Boas, Royals, Burmese Pythons, Common Boas) and that was many years ago, but now, as I return to the hobby/passion/obsession/way-of-life, I find myself attracted to lizards (no, not like that!) in a way i never was before... In an ideal world I’d like to keep big monitors, but like many other people, I don’t live in an ideal world. Others species that fascinate me are Chameleons, Monkey-Tailed Skinks, Tegus, Basilisks, Bearded Dragons, Crocodile Skinks and Crested Geckos.
Having never kept lizards before I have spent the last few months reading everything I can, trying to decide, a.) what I’d most enjoy owning, and B.) and more importantly!, what I could provide the optimum care and environment for... Rest assured that once I make my decision I’ll be filling in the gaps in my knowledge and reading with the advice of those in the know – namely, you lot!
Cheers for now! |

hi Sila,
Thanks for the comments about the forum, really nice to see people appreciate the efforts involved and of course the time and energy put in by our members too
Sounds like you've had quite a few adventures...look foward to reading about a few
With regards to monitors, look out for glauerti, they are a small lizard but big in personality and make a great display.
regards
