I took in a young royal a few weeks ago in a pityful state. He was 46g and triangular, the owner was told to tube feed! They brought it to me to do just that, did i tube feed no, i assist fed him he is now nearly 80g and striking from my fingers, If assist feeding is done correctly as the eggman says, it is over with very fast with no stress to the snake at all. Thats my opinion folks and i have a healthy snake in my care as testement to it _________________

yes...but what you are forgetting here is....she was tried with assist feeding, and got herself so stressed i thought she was going to die. with tube feeding she doesnt get stressed and its done in seconds. am not asking to be judged here, and you have to realise that some snakes just wont be assisted or forced. when i got her she weighed 90grms, i was told she was a bad feeder. last monday the vet weighed her and she was 62grams. i gave her her medicine and the food paste all week and on friday she was 66grams. i will do whatever i can to get her to eat herself, but i need to get some weight on first. she is pooing too, so thats a good sign. if yours eat by assisting thats good, this wee one wont. and she is healthy, just doesnt want to eat. well not mice or rats anyway. might try her with a lettuce leaf. |

thats good it worked for you, and i wish it had worked for her, but she wasnt having it. i actually took her to the vet expecting to be told she would need to be put to sleep, instead i came away with a bit more hope. i have tried everything in the book with her, including me trying to assist, and my freind who has bred them for twenty years trying to assist, and she wont have it. this is us in the last chance saloon im afraid. i just wondered if anyone else had tube fed, and did it have a happy outcome. |

As vixen has said previously, assist feeding was her first port of call. Only after futile attempts both by herself and a friend with over 20 years experience and the advice by a qualified vet, did she undertake the task of tube feeding. It seems to work well for her and her snake, which is good.
Total respect to you Eggman. I think you have just talked yourself into writing a thread on how to assist feed???? I for one would love to read it!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist
