I was just wondering why reptile racking from companies like;
www.pro-racks.com
www.winracks.com
are so expensive?

I know they have to make a profit and the tubs are quite pricey, but why would this cost £313?

I know the tubs cost about £8 each.

8 x 10 = £80
2 heat strips come to about £30

Thats a total of £120. Where does the other £193 go then?

Is making the metal "housing" THAT expensive?

Sorry if i sound stupid....

Because they are providing a service, every other company that provides a service gets paid for it, why shouldn't they?
Obviously the price is ok because of the amount of people that buy them.

I was thinking about that.

Do you use melamine chipboard?

I was thinking of using that and leaving a tiny gap between the tub and the qwood for vetilation. So no lid?

Does this work well?

There's five heat strips on that, one for each level. So that's about £75 for the heat strips, leaving the frame at £158 for materials plus obviously the guy's time and skill in building it. Certainly doesn't seem that much to me ...
