Try grabbing some lino from a floor shop, they usually have offcuts or waste stuff you can get for nothing and it works great, easy to clean and crix cant get under it.

I would never put any baby lizard on sand.

I put the 300 odd hatchlings that I hatched in the last 2 years onto playsand straight from the incubator ..... didn't loose one to impaction. Very Happy

Could it be that people worry to much or maybe pass information on without actually having any experience with the subject that they profess to have knowledge of ?

Just a thought. Wink

i have had beardies on sand before and if you look when they are feeding a lot of the time they get a mouth full of sand when eating the crickets, if you google it you will find evidence that sand does impact and can kill,, i would have said its better to be safe than sorry, I'm not just saying it for fun

At the end of the day its down to you, get all the info and make a desicision based on what u read, i did the same when changing to sand, although it is for adults ... I havent kept babies on sand as i gather that due to their bad aim as youngsters they tend to get a bit of sand too, although i do know people that keep them on sand from day one (playsand) and have had no trouble, so i guess its up to you. Very Happy
p.s. i keep mine on lino, easy wipe!

I have hatched out close to about 100 hatchlings in the past from beardies and have never kept them on sand, a friend kept his on sand and had 4 die from impaction, could it actually be that people give information about what worked for them luckily?

I think that none out of 300 isn't luck Roy, probably more down to the quality of care that serpent provides. (Not that I'm saying your mate didnt care about the ones affected by impaction).
Basically I think it's down to preference and just keeping your eyes on the little guys. If you notice a particularly messy eater then don't use sand for that one (or group). Or feed out of the tank.
