Back in the 90`s, the Original British Dendrobatid Group were an absolute Aladdin`s cave for information on the husbandry of Dart frogs and all associated topics such as livefood culture and vivarium construction.
A wealth of information was available on the site and it was a great shame when the group dissolved. I was therefore very pleased to hear recently that one of the former BDG members, John Skillcorn has gone to the effort of making this information all available again once more in the shape of the Bio Diversity Group. So still using the original BDG abbreviation.
Here is an axtract from the site explaining;
Originally, this Website was aimed largely at those people connected by only one common subject: the conservation and captive breeding of a small group of South American frogs belonging to the Dendrobates, Phyllobates, Colostethus and related genera. Indeed, you will still find a wealth of data on this Website dealing with these species. However it is now hoped that a whole range of other living things - plant and animal, vertebrate and invertebrate - will eventually be included.
John has 'resurrected' the BDG Website rather than see years of work wasted, and all credit to him for doing so. The information is all available again once more at http://www.thebdg.org/
I thoroughly recommend that anybody wanting to know more about dart frog husbandry should spend some time browsing the information available on the site. Although perhaps a little out of date in certain areas, there could be no better way of gaining a good ground knowledge in dart frog care .
It`s really good to see this information available once more. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Yes I agree Peter it is good to see the information back in the open again, as an original member myself I too was disapointed to see it dissolve and was led to believe that it would never be activated again.
Just a shame it is only now currently available as more of an archive rather than an active group again for the dendrobate side of things.
The more good and honest information that is available to us in the hobby the better I say.

Agreed. At least it is once again accessable, and I think that John would welcome contributions also. It`s definately a good read for anybody wanting to get to grips with the basics. It certainly helped me! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Peter, Thank you (and others) for the kind words you've written with regard the 'new' Website THE BioDiversity Group. You probably know that running a Website is sometimes a thankless task, so it's wonderful to be appreciated from time to time! I've made little progress so far, but I plan to add new topics which I think will appeal to many more people than just frog lovers! All the best for now. John Skillcorn |
