Looking at web sites I have found that the way to get a Killer Bee is to initially cross a Pastel with a Spider thereby making a Bumble Bee, and then cross the Bumble back to the Pastel.
Would the final result be the same - a Killer Bee - if a Super Pastel was crossed with a Spider ? Just seems that if a Super Pastel is available, big if.... , it would be quicker. But would it work ? |

if you crossed a a Super Pastel with Spider you will end up getting 50% Bumble Bees and 50% Spiders to get a a killer bee you need both the parents to have the Pastel gene

Actually, if you crossed a Super Pastel to a Spider, you'd (theoretically) get 50% Bumblebees & 50% Pastels, since the Super Pastel is homozygous and can only pass along a Pastel allele to its offspring. So, Bees & Pastels would be the result...the # of Bees you get just depends on where the Spider allele is also passed along.

Thankyou both very much. You have both answered my question as to whether or not I can take a short cut to get a Killer Bee, and the answer is no..... !! |
