I would be really grateful for your advice. We currently have a lovely corn snake (an absolute sweety to handle) and are keen to add another snake to our collection. I love the look of a Brazilian Rainbow Boa but have been warned off them as they can be unpredictable(?) so have also been considering a Common Boa. As well as keeping them for our own pleasure, we also take them out on animal encounter sessions with children so need something pretty laid back. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Hi Jules..really hard to recommend any single snake.Maybe if you named a few you are interested in we could go from there..also is size an issue

Hognose

Sometimes can be a bit hissy when first getting them out of the viv/tub etc but after that usually dog tame.

Great snakes and never had a fussy feeder yet Cool

For animal encounters....BOA, gotta love em, pretty calm, grow to a 'good' size and the amount of variety in the normals is amazing. I'd trust my Boas more than my corn snakes to be honest! Also, they love eating, never refuse!

Well I have never had one boa that I would trust to be honest!..I found all the ones I kept very unpredictable.Not saying they are all like that but ones I had were..

Jules, I think you've answered your own question. Brazilian Rainbows make good captives if a little more demanding than corns. Read up as much as you can, then go get one! One thing you might not see in print is they are very susceptible to high temperatures.

Common boas are great snakes, but can be unpredictable. I was (and a friend) doing an encounter with two 7ft boas, one each. He put one down to put 'my' one round a volunteer's neck, it started to slither off quite fast, so I went to retrieve it, and it started striking at me Laughing

He was swiftly taken away!

Usually a very calm snake. The other stayed out for the duration, and didn't even start to hiss.

Aslong as you keep the head away from everyone, they should be okay though. It was a bit of a one off.
