I raised this on another forum and got a mixed bunch of opinions...so I just wondered what you all thought of keeping WC Geckos...Humane? Wrong? Useful? Brings CB's into the hobby?
Would be interesting to know _________________ xx RIP Messi & Shadequa xx Leopard Geckos 2.0.6 xx missing Corn Snake 0.1.0 xx Fan Footed Gecko 0.1.0 xx Bearded Dragon 0.0.1 xx

With anything we want to keep WC is needed to establish CB stock so unless its WC stuff thats been available as CB for years I see no wrong. _________________ Paul

IF it isn't detrimental to the numbers in the wild and IF enough info is known about the species to keep it in 'adequate' conditions in captivity then to 'introduce' a new species to the hobby then I don't see a problem with it, but once enough seperate bloodlines have been sorted then I believe it should be CB only. _________________ MORE THAN 2! |

Well if WC Geckos were not kept in captivity then they would not be able to come in to the hobby by breeding. I don't have a problem with keeping WC geckos with the intention of bringing them into the hobby, just as long as they are studied in there natural habitat for a adequate amount of time before they are captured. If the conditions they are kept in also mimic those of the wild then i see no problem either.
Edit
Lol i took me a while to write that there were no replies when i started _________________ 0.0.1 Rhacodactylus ciliatus (Crested Gecko) |

As long as you don't effect the natural population and if you use the
WC specimens to produce CB specimens i am all for it. _________________ www.freewebs.co.uk/southeastreptiles |

I think this is qite a tricky one.
I think if youre experienced, know how to treat any diseases or infections it may have, know an importer who is going to ship it correctly casuing minimal stress, have a near enough perfect setup ready for when it gets to your home so after pick up they can go directly into there environment again. If its a rare species (like the satanic leaf tailed on another thread), you should have hatchling tanks ready and should always have the aspect of breeding in mind...
I think its ok but obviosuly prefer to buy CB where possible. Just my 2 cents...
