Out of curiosity what do all you snake owners use as substrate in your vivs? and what would you consider the best? Confused

This is one of those questions you can't answer with any one substrate. It depends what you want animal you want it for, how much work you want to put in and how much you want to spend.

I use a combination of flax and coconut husk as it keep humidity well, although i often confuse bits of husk with mites.

Incidentally it doesnt matter what substrate you use, if you are going to get snake mites it is from infested snakes or vivs. The mites you get in certain substrates, while they don't look great, don't feed on your snakes. There is only one that feeds on snakes blood.

My dumerils is currently in a nice natural-ish viv and i m using a top soil mixed with play sand, with a top layer of aspen ive had no problems with cleaning, mites or anything else for that matter, newspaper while practical is just plain ugly.Considering she's my only snake i dont have any reason to keep her in a plain viv.

i have a royal and i use bark chippings but they get in the snakes water and well everywhere! i just wanted to hear what every1 uses to give me a few ideas as to what would be easier to manage, and maybe look good.
Has any1 ever used or thought of a soft astro-turf or fake grass kind of substrate?
