Are there rules for what royals you can put together from the genetics point of view.

E.G. Someone told me is was not a good idea to put an albino to albino royal, but het to albino is fine.
Is this true or is albino albino o.k. so you get all albinos?
Does it make a difference is they are siblings?
e.g.
male albino to sister female?
these are e.g.s to give an idea of the information I am after.
thanks in advance
mike

Bob Clark produced albino's from one male... But the hetz were bred back to the father and not each other! I'm not entirely sure why.. but I guess it was to widen the gene pool (from the mother) to help prevent any genetic disorders which may acure. I'm planning on breeding albino to albino in a few years, but I purposely made sure when I got them that they were as unrelated as they could be.

Does that mean... if you wanted... you could breed your albino siblings together and produce healthy albino babies?

Gotcha... Not sure about Mike but I've never really been into anything else other than albino's and normals, so I guess Crossing wouldn't really effect that side of things for me Smile

Thanks eggman.
Just looking at my options for the future, when my royals have started feeding I will see if can get someone to sex them for me. I ahve sexed subadults and adult royals but not confident for babies.
Im hoping 1 male 2 female for the albinos. and the four hets to be female.
I will obviously aim for more albinos but what would be nice is to get a pied and breed with albino to get double hets. then breed the double hets to each other and get a albino pied. does this sound like a good project?

thanks
mike

I'd breed the double hets back to the parents instead, then prove out the visuals 50% het the other trait

sorry but most of this genetic stuff is stil floating around in my head. If I sound clever at any point it is because I am quoteing what I have read .
Elaborate please sounds very interesting.

with regards to 'rules', no set rules at all but certain morphs are not recommend to breed 2 visuals together, Caramel Albinos have been noted as producing a kinked spine in some lines when they were produced from a visual to visual breeding, I can't think of any others right now though.

Co-dom morphs are pretty outcrossed over all, so mating siblings together isn't a big issue but you should always try to introduce new blood after a couple of generations. Recessive snakes stand a higher chance of being inbred but again if the genes are good in the first place then brother x sister or son x mother matings should be fine but again keep good records and introduce new blood when you can.
