Hi any got any ideas what could be up with my royal as she not very mobile at the mo ? This is me with her and this is her her viv! Could there be a problem with the viv ?

Lovel viv mate but as I said in the other section I really don't think your royal will utilise the height and space.Royals are very secretive and seem to prefer smaller enclosures.Several people I know have moved their royals into large enclosures only to find that the snake then totally goes off its food and hides away constantly.

My 3 royals always come out 20-30 min after the light in viv goes out, very rare to see them in the day. So i always feed them late at night once they seem to be on the hunt
Viv is 36"x18"x18" I keep readin on here that they dont like to climb but find that my 3 are the complete oposite however they do tend to fall off most things hense the reason i called one of them Autumn(autumn falls). I'm tempted to give them a bit more height but would have to put a lot of thought into layout to prevent mishaps Embarassed

Is she shedding? mine go quiet and seek cooler areas of the viv when they shed. Also with all the rain we have had she may have gone into breeding mode, I read elsewhere a lot of snakes are in breeding condition at the moment due to the excessive rain.

PS: Never had a problem with Royals in bigger Vivs, they are nocturnal yes, but make full use of every inch of their vivs and eat like horses !

Great looking viv but....

what are you using for heat?
where is the hot/basking spot? (day and night time?)
what temp is the coolest place?
Is that a UV light?
How long has your royal been in there?

When my royal python is out she spends most of the time up on the rocks at the top of the cage.

There is a heat mat in the lowest cave set at 30
And a UV - Natural 20 watt 600mm tube light at the top of the viv.
The normal bulb ( Blue tinted light has been removed )
I am now adjusting the ventilation to keep the temp up.

Her eyes have just started going gray, so she is getting ready to shed !
She has been in there for around 3 months !

I'd be tempted on removing the UV light and replacing it was a spot light to produce a little more heat.

Also, just a note, some snakes exposed to UV lights in vivs have apparently suffered eye damage, although I suspect this would be from snakes that have no where to hide from the UV rather than a set up like yours.

I use a ceramic bulb for basking heat in my Royal's viv and no artificial light at all. Elvis comes out only after sunset and is fed at night.

Like yours, ours has a heat mat under one of its hides. Our Royal is also a climber and sometimes sleeps in a suspended hollow bark. Your viv is higher than Elvis's but base dimensions are the same and with all that decor he shouldn't be agraphobic. Personally would try adjusting the light and heat sources before moving into a smaller viv.
