Just counted the second litter fromm my multimammates....16, the first was 11. I think my second time around with this species is looking good.
The main advantage with this species is..... they don't smell!!! Result!!!
I have to say the mice I got from Scott are looking equally prolific. I have never had mice regularly produce over 8 pinks...... Not sure how many pinks... tooo many to tell for sure. Great strain Scott.

Glad there doing well for you. I just haven't enough cages to set any more up.
How do you keep the multi's? Lab cage? 1.1 or 1.3's etc. _________________

I have to agree with the multi's. Fab little things - I just wish they developed quicker. If they did they would be absolutely perfect. _________________ Regards, Tanya

I had 2.4 but they escaped!!! Luckily I found 1.1! So only have a pair set up in a lab cage. They were initially in a tank but chewed through the mesh.
I intend setting them up as 1.3 once my numbers are up.
Tanya, I hadn't really noticed they were particularly slow in developing. They certainly wean as quickly as normal mice, and the first litter are as big as adult mice and are only 7 weeks. I must admit it has been several years since the last time I kept these. My adults are nowhere near as large as I remember adults to be, so you may well be right, reaching full adult size may be slow.
They are still great things. They do try to bite though!!
Cheers

Yeah they seem to take an age. The females only tend to have a litter every four weeks which is when the original babes have weaned but from then to full adult and breeding age seems to take forever whereas the fancies spit them out like peas.
Let's see now.......... Got a pair in late September last year I think it was (when was the Norwich show?) ..... it was the end of October when she had her first litter and I'm still waiting for the females of that litter to have any pinks although the original mum is now on her third litter _________________ Regards, Tanya

Mark, you say they chewed thrugh the mesh? what the stainless steel wire top or something else? (don't want the buggers if they can chew thru steel!)

Hi Scott,
I just threw them in a tank I acquired, never noticed the mesh was Aluminium until it was too late. They do have a reputation for chewing though. . . must pay more attention
My animals were about 5 weeks old when I got them, 1st litter at about 9-10 weeks and would appear every 3-4 weeks since. My first litter are around 6 weeks. I'll see how they go!!
Cheers

lol Cheers, Scott
Yep, to my mind, they're a lot like gerbils in their chewing habits. Much much stronger chewers than other mice. _________________ Regards, Tanya
