That hatchling has fully emerged, along with two others and a fourth one has also pipped, so far.
Here's the same one when it was struggling out of the egg a couple of days ago. Normally they slash the egg to ribbons and practically fall out, but this one decided to leave via a very small hole.
Here it is again, a while later. Poor thing was trying to turn in on itself to get away from me and my camera.
Compared to a hatchling perentie. both of these shots were taken on the days they hatched and it's an average sized hatchling lace monitor.

hahah... From what I've seen, Komodo hatchlings are patterned a lot like the lace monitor hatchling - its closest relative - but not quite as bright, and are a third again larger than the perentie hatchling. |
