Just a quick question.

How often does a corn snake need to be handled to get used to you?
I only get to handle my corn once or twice a week due to her feeding regime. I don't handle her the day shes due to be fed and then i give her 3 days for digestion, shes fed 2 pinks every 5 days so that only gives me 2 days to handle her. Even then sometimes she doesn't want to come out ( i never reach into her viv and pick her up i just open the viv and let her come out herself if she wants to ).
She's always friendly when she does venture out but i'm sort of worried i'm not handling her enough.

Sorry for being a pain and asking questions all the time.

Asking questions is not being a pain, it shows that you really care about your snake. If when it does come out it is quite happy in your hands, it would appear that it is nice and tame already. As it grows and you can give larger food items at weekly intervals you will have more days on which to handle it.

Have a read of my feeding regime below for my lads corn snake. I personally allow 24hrs before handling and have never had a problem. She is my lads and I always allowed him to handle teh day after with no probs at all. If I have fed each day she has been handled in between. e.g. fed monday morning , handled tuesday, fed tuesday night. BUT all snakes are differenet.
Sometimes my lad has just gone and got her after I have fed her without me realising and still no probs. I tend to feed smaller items more often, when young then move to larger less often when they get to a good size.
If you are feeding large prey items then longer is needed. e.g. a 120grm rat to my royals will take a few days, but I dont handle the royals much anyhow(thats why I bought a corn for my lad to keep him away from my royals Laughing )
have a read of the below.

I dont think you have to worry about not handling enough, sounds like you are doing fine. My snakes dont get overly handled at all. You have to remember that when young they are prey for other animals and are a bit flighty.

Over time, it will learn you are not a threat, as long as your not being bitten, musked and the snake is struggling to get away, than I'd call it tame.

As for feeding, I would rather let the animal digest it's food in peace aswell, and then wait for it to actively start hunting again. I dont keep to a strict timetable for feeding at all, IMHO it doesn't not hurt for them to go a bit longer but maybe this is more apt for an older snake.

ok thanks for that. She really is a friendly little thing and i just want to keep her that way. Smile

I'm going away soon for 3 weeks, my mother is gonna change her water, feed her and spot clean her viv but won't handle her. Hopefully it won't effect her too much and i'll be able to handle her as usual.
