Hi guys, i know we have discussed importing from the states a few times on here and other forums, and this may be a stupid question but.. I travel to the states quite a bit as i have friends over there, usually once a year minimum sometimes more, the next time i am over is December just before Christmas and i just got wondering if i were to bring one or two snakes back with me if it could work? i.e bringing them to the airport myself getting on the same plane etc, i know all the necessary cites papers and stuff would need doing but would flying anyway make it more worthwhile, it would only be one or two snakes. i mean i guess if someone was immigrating to Britain they might want to bring there pets with them?
Thanks for your answers as always.
Andy

Hi Andy, We looked at bringing in a graziani pastel last year when we were over. It was the same priice in dollars as you were paying in pound and with the favourable exchange rate was almost half price. but with the paperwork, vets fees for inspection of animal, VAT and transport cost it was working out pretty much the same as you would pay here without the hassle, so we left it. I dont know if others have a similar viewpoint. the best idea would be to get in with a shipment, that way alot of the one-off costs such as vets fees are shared among all parties and possibly get a discount from the seller for buying a few at once.

I thought of doing this at one point! I got around this by contacting a breeder who was holding a site at Hamm Germany. You can pay for your reptile in Dollars (via credit card ect - whilst your in the UK) and then collect them from the show in Germany! That way you get your animal in US currency, skip importation taxes and get to view your reptile while the breeder is there! Wink

Plus you get to see one of the worlds best reptile shows!!! - Just food for thought!
