I have recently got a young royal i'm guessing at about a year old and she seems to be a little under weight with quite a v shaped profile to her and when she is laying she seems to lay quite flat if that makes sense. Weighed her and she is about 581g. So what do you guys think is best just feed every 5 days and see how it goes? Or more regular?

Joe

Just offer food Joe but nothing too large if she looks underweight..little and often is better than one huge meal..if she feeds regularly for you then she will put the weight on.If she is feeding regular and still looks thin maybe worth a trip to the vets...is the snake captive farmed or captivebred.

581g is not a bad weight for a yearling royal, I have a couple of 2yr olds that are about the same weight but they are perfectly healthy.
I think I know what your talking about, which is what I like to call "squishy" royals. Ones that seem to be very flat rather than round, I've spoken to several big breeders about this at length and pretty much all of them agree that there is nothing wrong with this, personally I quite like em!

The easiest way to tell if a royal is underweight is almost the oposite of what you described, rather than going the shape of a flat V they go the shape of a very thin V.

Hope that helps! Cool

Assuming that it is genuinely a yearling and not a 4-5 year old wild caught snake that has lost a lot of weight...after all age of the snake is uncertain as even he says he is guessing at that..
