Well.. title says it really!! Just wondering, as I think they're really lovely looking geckos and was surprised at how cheap they are.. Confused
Can they be tamed or is it very difficult to tame them?

Thanks Smile

Basically, any cheap ones you see in pet shops will be parasite ridden WC specimens. With a bit of care however, they can do well in captivity. I would however, suggest seeking out a captive bred specimen.

As for being tamed (any experiences anyone!), I know some people have got them - but personally it's the aggression in this species that I love. Very Happy

Depends on the shop. Haven't looked at prices recently, so I wouldn't really know. I believe they have a 9 month incubation period or something silly Laughing - I would have the patience.

Masochistic - yes. TBH, I just like the idea of a reptile which will bark at you, and hang on like a rottweiler, despite being 12 inches long. Laughing

I think unless you've kept them it's hard to explain the attraction.

I personally think they are less aggressive than a lot of monitors and iguanas, and unless you get really close(i.e, pick them up) they just bark and gape. The bite can be sore, but I very rarely ever touched ours, only if he was being cleaned out or taken to the vet. I had also worked out that if you grabbed him just behind his head, he couldn't get his mouth round to bite.

Like chams, they should be a display only kind of lizard, and if you want something you can handle then get a beardie or leopard gecko.

I loved watching our tokay hunt for crickets at night-it was amazing how fast he attacked them!

Thanks guys. Cool

And for the record, I don't want a beardie or leopard gecko Rolling Eyes I much prefer arboreal species. Cool
