I've seen lots of people with the same predicament, but somehow that doesn't help. I want to get a new camera Nikon or Canon. If I owned lenses of either system, the choice would be easy(er). But now I am looking at getting a complete system (cam + at 3-4 lenses (not all at once). I sort of have a preference for Canon (CMOS is a better sensor), but tbh the Nikon D80 is better than the Canon 400D, but how will the Canon 30D successor compare to the Nikon D200? I get the feeling the 30D successor is the one I'll really want, but I also need a camera NOW (want it for a safari holiday soon).
I know you guys won't solve it for me, Stuart will say NIKON, Eggman will shout CANON. But maybe some opinions will help Confused

My main focus will be macro stuff, but with kids and holidays general photography will certainly also be important.

As you haven't got any investment in either camp then I say go with what feels the most comfortable for you..the canon and nikons feel totally different and tbh I think canons seem to suit people with smaller hands...the image quality from both will be excellent and it comes down more to the lenses you buy tbh.Go to a shop and have a play around with both see what you think..I also found the nikon is much easier to navigate through the menus and easier to see in bright sunlight..

With the extra battery grip attached it's feels just right plus the bonus of 3 batteries Wink

I did prefer the menu system and controls of the canon when I compared it to Stuarts Nikon but to be honest that doesn't really mean anything as I still can't use the damn thing Embarassed

Infact it's not taken a shot for way over a year Embarassed

BUT it WILL be up and running very soon...once I have some more spare time Wink

If I was starting again...I would choose whatever a friend was using successfully....therefore he could teach me Wink

but I still think the end result is THEY ARE BOTH great cameras in the right hands!

Yes mate yours is the 20D and like you say it feels very nice and solid with the additional battery grip.Although its probably down to me using a nikon I found the menu's a pain to navigate on the 20d..you seem to have to enter loads of menus to do one thing.
Both are great at the end of the day,comes down to taste.Just wait until the "Lens lust" hits you!!
