|

It is now 6 days and 4 days since my baby geckos hatched, and I put some very small crickets in the cage with them on friday but there still seems to be some crickets wandering about.
Before we fed them I suggested to my parents that we put them in a seperate, empty cage for feeding, but they though that it would be fine putting the crickets in the cage with the geckos.
Is this alright? Or should I be putting them in a seperate cage? _________________ 1.1.1 Crested Geckos

how big are the vivs the babies are in and how much decoration does it have ?
it might be an idea to feed them in a little seperate tank if the main tank is big .
just put a lil dish of cgd in with them and try to put it under there nose , hopefully they will smell it and eat some .
and maybe put a little cricket or two in and see if they chase them down . not had babies yet myself so not too sure how aware they are at such a young age _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

Have any of the crickets gone or is there just a couple left wandering around? It may be that the crickets are doing a good job of hiding so that the babies can't get to them.
I usually feed 3 to 4 crickets per baby, watch them for a little while to make sure both are hunting. Then I give them a couple of hours before I take any left over crickets out. I don't like to leave crickets in the tank just to be on the safe side. _________________

I set up all my babies in a 15"x15"x20" exo terra (or whatever size is near to that).
I keep 3" of compacted peat as substrate, then just have a mass of plastic vine type plants and a VERY shallow water dish.
For the first 6 weeks I only feed crickets, HOUSE crickets....NEVER blacks.
I also let water drip through from the mesh lid every day or so to ensure that the peat substrate stays damp but not soggy.
Then all I do is throw crickets in every few days. I keep it so that there are always crickets available to eat.
I never really monitor food intake etc but just keep an eye on the young to check they are growing well.
So far I've never had problems with that method. _________________

We say one of them catch a cricket last night, and counted 5 before that (We put 6 in), so we think at least 2 have been eaten by now, I've seen poo around the tank as well so that's always a good sign! _________________ 1.1.1 Crested Geckos
