Hi all,
Until now i have been happy keeping and breeding panther chameleons,But i would like to try something a little different and i am really attracted to uroplatus would like phantasticus,if i can find them,
Do you guys think they can be found forsale in the uk or even in hamm??
I don't think i would have any trouble in keeping them and would make a nice change from the chameleons.
Can anybody recommend any breeders/ect to source them??
Any help would be great
Many thanks
Luke

U. phantasticus are very very hard to come by! I saw some in a shops breeding program years ago but none since, havent even seen them at Hamm. Most other Uroplatus can be found after a lot of searching or places like Hamm!
good luck!

You aren't the only one, nearly all the gecko keepers I know would cut their right hand off for a pair of those beauties. Including myself, they are gorgeous and impossible to find.

I kept them about 4 years ago and I had a group of 8 - but with as with most uroplatus in this country they came in as wild caught adults and with no idea of age they all eventually passed away Crying or Very sad I did have a few of them up until last year though. They do only have a relatively short lifespan when compared to most other geckos - around 5 years.
But now with them being upgraded on CITES to Appendix 2 (I believe) no more can be exported out of Madagascar into the EU so the only ones available are European captive bred ones which do command a higher price and are like rocking horse doodah to get hold of. I think your only chance would be shows in Europe but I would try and locate a breeder and book them before hand. Anyway Good luck with them if you get some!!!
