I think that's pretty self-explanatory. Smile

As Serpent mentioned, scorpions don't need UV (or 'black') light. Welcome to the wonderful world of Things With More Than Four Legs!

As mentioned in the linked articles, scorpions flouresce under UV light. Thing is, it's been found that continuous UV exposure is not good for scorpions (I have a feeling this was discovered thanks to keepers installing UV setups in their scorpion vivs so they could have a funky living lightshow) - maybe this is part of the reason for that pet shop's aggressive marketing strategy?
It's recommended that any exposure to UV is kept as short as possible. Personally, if there's any doubt, I'd include blacklights in that statement.

And remember: only use a shop as a source of husbandry info as a last resort. Wink Well, most shops anyway.

To Vermis and Serpent, thankyou for your invaluble advise, I very rarely go into petshops, as most the staff have no clue what their selling anyway, and if they dont know, they cant be bothered to find out!
After looking up the sites that serpent mentioned, Im more aware of things, vital to the care and health of these beautiful creatures, its mind-boggling to think new scorp owners are not given this information! Mad
Unfortunately, like most "unconventional pets", the basics are skimmed over, and the important stuff forgotten. I`ll be sticking with your advise, from now on, theres nowt better than sucsessful experienced herp keepers! Thanks guys! Cool

You're welcome, though I consider myself an invert keeper (28 spiders, 24 scorps and much more vs. one garter snake and two fire-bellied toads Wink) with a little experience and book-learnin'. Keepers with a lot more know-how than me can be found on arachnoboards.com, thebts.co.uk, and bugnation.co.uk, to name a few.
