Just a quick question,

The past few days my room (which my cresties are in) has been a pretty constant 77-80F. I have read from some places that 80F+ for a period is bad for the cresteds whilst others state 85F+. Do you think there is a real need for me to get some sort of cooling device to drop the temps a bit. I have not noticed any adverse effects regarding the geckos, I don't want to either Wink

.

Glad you asked Cleef I have been thinking much along the same lines myself recently. Last night at midnight the temp in the wee mans viv was 80F, and he was quite happy running around hunting his crickets.. Laughing

For short periods (few hours a day) they can handle temperatures in excess of 90f but long term it will decrease their appetites and stop most activity.

If the temp reaches 85f for a few hours a day and then slowly drops back to mid 70's during the night then you won't really notice much of a problem.

Just ensure that the cage doesn't receive direct sunlight.

If the temps get too high you could freeze a few bottles of water and place them in the viv to cool it down

Yeah my room is at 79-80F now and I have put a fan on. If it gets hotter then I normally just put a couple of ice cubes on top of the tank and they just slwoly melt and drip through (as it's an exo terra). This normally gets the temp down for a while.

Good idea phil, Ive had my huge fan blowing on it for the last while few hours while I was out and got it to stay at a constant 75F

My shed went up to the high 90's before i got an air-con unit. I had leachianus and cresties who didnt suffer any harm in these temps.
I wouldnt get too worried until the temps reach the mid 80's and the first thing I would do is to place the tank/viv on the floor in the coolest room which is usually the bathroom (usually tiled ? )
