after reading the other thread called "recommended first venomous " i think some of the boiga species (not mangrove as they are DWA) were mentioned , gtp ,wtb , were all said to be good to get handling technics , and the aggression of some of these snakes is another way of "getting use" to such snakes _________________ http://www.beardieboard.com/ |

i'd mimic what cass said, but to be honest i don't think there is anything that could truely prepare you for dealing with venemous except maybe some practice with someone who knows what they are doing. I know you'd always feel different if you with a snake that could potentially do a lot of damage/kill you than one that couldn't. |

as many different species as possible
there's not one snake that will replicate another species 100%, what ideally you need/should have is a broad experiance of various species so that you can learn to read them and predict what and how they will react.
This will of course never make you 100% ready for any dwa snake but it should hopefully build your confidence up so that you are safe in what you are doing.
I would recommend keeping a collection of various colubrid snakes and then working them as if they were venomous i.e. using tongs/hooks for ALL movements, securing them before servicing the cage (even if just changing the water!) Generally just getting the right mindset of the issues / problems you would face when dealing with a venomous species (even removing eye caps, or dealing with a poor feeder). _________________
