hi all, im a gecko man myself, but i have just got a call from a concerned friend who has bought a Boa from a rather notorious pet shop, he says he seems healthy at face value, but on closer inspection he seems to have runny nostrils, sounds weezy, and aparently he has seen a couple of tiny red bugs on him (mites) can boas get some kind of cold? are these symptoms of an illness people know of? and will it be a case of an antibiotics course or vetenary treatment? any help would be grateful, many thanks.

sounds like a respitory infection, and it would be wise to take the boa to the vets.

Hi mate, find out what temps etc the boa is being kept at now by your mate and we can help.

As for the mites? Constant cleaning/isolation from other animals, soak in tepid mildly soapy water for a while. As soon as the animal sheds, remove shed. I personally used frontline in a small slightly diluted amount with a burm i bought from a notorious petshop years ago and it worked a treat. The off shelf stuff is crap IMO i went through botle after bottle of proven stuff to no avail.

I know some people used to be able to get hold of provent a mite or an equivilent from the US? maybe another member can help here.

I notice your from London, could you PM me the petshop name/location please. I have my suspicions Wink
