My large female Royal is very very very (I could go on all day) violent. Never seen anything like it in my life! Trying to feed her a pre killed XL mouse - blood everywhere! She kept striking it but would drop it everytime. Instantly I picked it up and tried again, same. I must have tried 20+ times and always the same. The final time, she knocked the mouse out of the viv onto the floor. I went to pick it up, looked up and she was staring at me. I saw her wind up for a strike and dodged her as she thrust 2ft out of the viv straight at my face. I was like Neo from the Matrix!
I had thought that the little rap on the knuckle I got the other day was because she was hungry, now I'm thinking she's got issues! Until that point she was fine with handling.
Any thoughts? _________________ A lil bit of Madagascar

1 piece leathers and a good helmet.
Sounds like your girl has serious issues!
My one smaller female ( 400g ) has gone same way. She doesnt strike feed but i leave her with a defrost in a box, lately she is just going all vampire on it! Im hoping its the weather.
She is still good to handle though. _________________ royals

When she strikes at it, put something over the glass so that she has some privacy and leave her alone overnight .... bet the mouse is gone in the morning. _________________ People laugh at me because I am different

One of my Kingsnakes sometimes does that but only with the mouse, never strikes at me. I've noticed she does that just before she comes into shed. Almost her way of saying "Take it away. I don't want it" and she'll hiss at it. I once tried to feed her a mouse that looked squashed to say the least. She literally hit it so hard with her mouth closed that I was left holding a piece of tail in the tongs. The mouse landed on the floor. I often defrost an extra mouse or two (more for one of my fussy Royal Pythons who likes rats, then he doesn't - prefers mice - fusspot - yeah but no but...) so offered her another mouse which looked better. She struck and ate that no problem.
Could be that there's something that your Royals don't like about that mice. We had a similar problem when my Royals turned their noses up at food about a year ago. Our local shop had changed suppliers and there was something the snakes didn't like about it - maybe something was tainting the mice and they could smell it. We started getting our mice and rats from a different supplier and our snakes were happy snakes again.
Might be worth your while changing suppliers and see what happens. _________________ 3 Royal Pythons - Byron, Bobby & Rosie
