I am having heating issues. Currently there is a heatmat on the side of the viv with a polystyrene tile behind it. It just isn't giving enough heat. Shoud i buy another heat mat or get a heat lamp? The highest temperature in the viv is only 22 degrees so i need to sort it out soon. Will they get ill?
what heat setups do you people have for your cresteds?
any info appreciated _________________ Kat |

A spot bulb will probably be the most benifitial (excuse spelling ) for the Crestie/s as it will provide a basking area. Adding another heat mat will probably suffice also. |

Kat,
Is the mat outside the viv?
If so, what is the surface temp of the cage side?
If it is 78 - 85f then you won't need any other heat, an ambient temp of 22 is fine if they can rest on the cage side where the pad is.
I use One small 6" heat strip under each cage, the ambient room temp is between 22c & 26c. The geckos will bask on the floor over the heat pads when they need to. _________________

I just wanted to add, if you do put a spot bulb in make sure it is guarded. Cresteds will jump on anything...lol. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

ok, thanks everyone, i've sorted it out and they have a spotliight now. Its outside the cage so i don't have to worry about them jumping on it (cage has a mesh top).
the highest temp in the cage was 22 degrees, so i thought that would be too cold. The heatmat is outside the cage. _________________ Kat |
