I have just looked into the Cornsnake Registry and would like to give it a go. But what I would like to know is - does it make a difference as a buyer? Would you pay a couple of quid more for a registered snake or just go for one out of a shop? _________________ If you can find it in your hearts to help another unwanted Iggy please visit www.happy-herps.co.uk/ and consider donating just 50p towards medical costs. |

After googling I can only find it in the US, so if you can link to it that would be good.
As I understand it, where the info on the US one is concerned anyway, it is more useful for breeders to source their snakes.
Personally for pets I wouldn't bother, it's a bit like the pedigree of other pets. If I want a pet I would go for on that appeals to me, not because it has a piece of paper saying its' parentage.
I may be way off base on this one, because as I said I have never heard of it ober here in the UK. |

I have never heard of the Cornsnake Registry so couldn't comment on whether it adds value to the snake or the hobby etc
What's the idea of the Cornsnake Registry? What information would it give the buyer? _________________

I'm not sure about this tbh, especially in the UK, we just dont know the history with the snakes we have, well most of us don't anyway.
It does make sense maybe with wc.
But then again I guess these types of things have to all start somewhere.
So answer is not sure, I wouldn't pay more just because it's on the registry but may pay more if I know it's from good stock, be it on the registry or not. _________________ www.ratsnakefoundation.org |

just had a quick scan through and am a bit dubious about how it all works, do all registered snakes get photo id?
I do think there is scope for a registration and vetting process for breeders/hobbyist breeders but not too sure about this ACR thing. _________________

I absolutely agree that registration (and shows like the CSFC tried, but that's another thing completely...) are the way forward for the hobby, especially corn snakes, but the ACR thing seems very complicated, and demanding photos for snakes is a bit too much hassle for most people.
If there was a UK registry more based along GCCf or KC, I'd probably use it. For royals where so much is captive farmed it's probably less use (though I'd pay more money for a royal from 3 generations of captive bred stock than I would for a royal with CF in the near ancestory), but for corns where wild caught is an oddity, not a regular occurance, it'd be useful for working out breeding decisions, as you could find out relationships between snakes much easier.
At the moment, I could buy two "unrelated" snakes from different breeders, only for them to be first cousins! I've nothing against inbreeding particularly, but you have to know what you're doing, and without linage information how do you know what you're doing! |
