Hiya.
I had thought about pig blankets as i had heard them referred to in a few books/online.
I asked around and nobody knew where to get them..as i still don't so i haven't used them.
If you get hold of any id be interested to hear how they work out.
Regards

So have you used them and how do you find them to use in rep enclosures? _________________ Beardies

if you are referring to me, then yes i have used them.
they need to be used in a BIG enclosure.
they work great but if unless its something enormous it may very well make the enclosure too hot. _________________ cardboard city. |

yes i was talking to you.
how big?
can they be statted?
have a 4x6x4 viv [l,h,d] and found heatmats werent pushing the heat far, plus obviously it would take 2 4 footers laying side by side to cover just half the viv floor] and was thinking one of them might have taken the edge of the substrate temp better than a couple of heat mate.
May very well look into it further in future although i tend to use Bulbs for the most part.
Can you give an example of wattage, size of viv used in, temps obtained atall?
cheers ears. _________________ Beardies

they can be used just as everything else is used in regards to a thermostat. ive never had problems with them.
mine were used in 2 12x6x4 enclosures.
obviously they are used for ground heating and do well under substrates or allowing animals direct access. _________________ cardboard city. |

from the place i have found here in the UK you cant put them under the substrate and i don't personally see a problem with using them in any Viv that will take them(size wise) as they aren't particularly high in wattage and can be controlled by a stat.as long as the rep has an area to go to without the heat. i received the following info from osborne-europe.co.uk which deals in them; size of mat wattage price excl vat
1.5'x2' 95 £69
1'x3' 80 £57
2'x3' 115 £85
as you can see they are a bit higher wattage then normal heat mats but i feel that the wattage being higher gives you a better range to control the temperature over and will last longer. they are also rigid so can be used with animals that have sharp claws and they can also be washed down if needed. like i say i have no experience using these but they seem OK,especially for the bigger snake, lizard or tortoise so it may be worth trying them out. |

I would also be interested in those pig blankets as an alternative to ceramics and tubular heaters.
Cheers for posting that its a couple of miles from my home, might see if i can pop up there in the near future and enquire about those feeding troughs. |
