|

2 weeks ago I got 2 18 month old crested geckos, a male and a female, and I've been trying to get my parents to get a nesting box ready just incase it looks as though babies could be on the way, though they wont as they don't think they will breed as they have just been introduced to each other and a new enclosure.
In the enclosure there is a plant pot with soil in growing ivy throughout the cage, and last night I saw the female rummaging around in the soil with it's head, which I havn't seen it do before, and it is getting into the plant pot now, I was just wondering if this was a sign of eggs on the way, or it just likes the plant pot?

I don't know much bout breeding cresties but it sounds to me like your female is looking for somewhere to lay her eggs.. assuming that the husbandry is correct etc.
I'm sure the experienced crestie breeders on this site will be able to offer you some advice on what to do And good luck! Got any pics of the pair? _________________

It does sound like she's either practicing or is about to lay anytime. I would put in a nest site for her otherwise if she can't find a suitable nest site she may retain the eggs and become eggbound. Just as a temporary nest site fill a cricket tub with loose peat (obviously natural no fertilisers) and she should use this - especially if you can place in under a shelter of plants or rounded cork bark. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the help, though I was just wondering if this would be happening even though the lizards had only been together for 2 weeks (well 16 days) _________________ 1.1.1 Crested Geckos

Any other thoughts on it are welcome even though I've been told by others about it just to get a big decision on it! _________________ 1.1.1 Crested Geckos
