Hi all.
I have two pairs of hissing roaches. have just noticed that they have a few mites. i have read that these are beneficial & don't do any harm, although i would prefer if they didn't have them.is their any way to get rid of these & also prevent. i am keeping them in a plastic container, with compost substrate & lightly misting every other night. they are on an unstated heat mat hot end 30 degrees, with fly screen mesh top.

thanks.

When I got my first hissers they had mites. I picked all the mites off with small brush. Best advice I can give you is try to clean them and put them in a new, completely clean container. Everything that kills the mites also kills the roaches, except predatory mites. So, its either celan them and try to get rid of them that way or tr predatory mites.

Hi there, I found that my hisser colony had mites when I bought them. The easiest way to get rid of them is a spotlessly clean container & NO humidity for a few days. Just a slice of apple or orange. As it is dry, the mites being smaller die of thirst 1st & they will congregate on the fruit which can be replaced daily. Any damp corner will harbour mites... eventually. Regards. . . Dave.
